Main Duties and ResponsibilitiesClinical Support Perform phlebotomy (venepuncture) in accordance with training and BCA protocols. Carry out routine clinical observations (blood pressure, temperature, pulse, oxygen saturation, weight, etc.) and accurately record results. Support sample collection, labelling, and safe handling in line with infection control procedures. Prepare clinical areas before and after clinics, ensuring equipment is clean, safe, and well-stocked. Act as a chaperone when required during patient consultations or examinations. Provide patients with health information and lifestyle advice, within scope of practice. Support clinicians in delivering care across BCA services, ensuring high standards of safety and patient experience. Service Delivery Work flexibly across multiple BCA services and locations as required. Support the smooth operation of Enhanced Access clinics, ensuring timely patient flow. Input and update patient data accurately on clinical systems (SystmOne). Follow infection prevention, control, and health & safety procedures. Handle clinical waste and sharps safely and in accordance with policy. Participate in audits, evaluations, and service improvement projects. Teamwork and Communication Work collaboratively with GPs, nurses, and administrative teams to ensure coordinated service delivery. Communicate effectively and compassionately with patients and carers. Escalate concerns promptly regarding patient wellbeing or service issues. Contribute to handovers and team briefings as appropriate. Support induction and training of new or temporary HCA staff. Learning and Development Maintain mandatory training and competency requirements for phlebotomy and clinical skills. Participate in clinical supervision, appraisal, and reflective learning. Engage in professional development opportunities offered by BCA. Keep up to date with service protocols and best practice guidance.
