Purpose of the Post: To assist the Forestry Manager to manage a profitable commercial forestry business and deliver our objectives regarding Countryside Stewardship and the UKWAS certification at Bolton Abbey. Main Duties:Working with the Forestry Manager to organise agreed work programs and prioritise works.Ensuring the works are carried out to a high standard and in timely fashion.To lead and take responsibility for the forestry team.To carry out all forestry tasks individually or as part of a team.Forestry maintenance operations including planting, fencing, walling, bracken weeding and spraying.Chainsaw operations including cross cutting, felling, clearing wind blow and thinning.Tree surgery work including tree climbing, chainsaw work and chipping.To oversee the maintenance of all forestry vehicles and equipment. Organising and planning all relevant equipment safety checks e.g... LOLER.Working as part of a team or alone without direct supervision.Interacting with other departments on the estate.Always working safely, being aware of your own and others health and safety. Taking responsibility for the health and safety of the forestry team and at worksites.To ensure all work is carried out to the high standard required.As a representative of Bolton Abbey Estate, being friendly, helpful, polite and enthusiastic when dealing with members of the public and other estate staff.Having a flexible approach to carrying out other work on the Estate including:Cutting, splitting and delivering firewood.Tractor driving including towing trailers and operating the forwarding trailer.Undertaking any training required.A drivers licence is essential.Our core values include “Being Inclusive” and we particularly welcome applications from disabled and Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) candidates who are currently under-represented.
