In order to apply for this role you will have proven experience in a payroll role, ideally within a large or complex organisation.
The role:
On behalf of a local council, we are seeking a Payroll Officer to work on a payroll related project for approximately 5 to 6 months.
This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to an important initiative within the public sector, ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time.
Key Responsibilities may include:
Process high volumes of data for weekly and monthly payrolls, ensuring full compliance with council policies, procedures, and relevant employment, pensions, and HMRC legislation.
Administer statutory payments, including sickness, maternity, and paternity pay, and accurately calculate tax and national insurance.
Work to strict payroll deadlines, managing and prioritising your workload effectively.
Maintain high levels of accuracy, numeracy, and attention to detail across all payroll activities.
Provide advice and guidance to employees and managers on payroll-related queries.
Utilise Microsoft Office packages (Outlook, Word, and Excel) to support day-to-day payroll processes.
What the client is looking for:
Proven experience in a payroll role, ideally within a large or complex organisation.
Strong numeracy, literacy, and analytical skills with a focus on accuracy.
Excellent communication skills and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
Ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines.
Working knowledge of HMRC and pension legislation.
Confident user of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
