The ideal candidate will have a genuine passion for supporting children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). As a SEND Support Worker, you will play a crucial role in assisting students to overcome barriers to learning, helping them to achieve their full potential and thrive in an inclusive educational environment.
Our client is committed to providing an outstanding level of support for their SEND students, and as such, they are looking for an individual who possesses excellent communication and interpersonal skills. You will work closely with teachers, other support staff, and parents/carers to develop and implement personalised support plans that cater to the unique needs of each student.
Key responsibilities of the SEND Support Worker include:
- Providing one-to-one and small group support to students with SEND, adapting learning materials and activities to suit individual needs
- Encouraging and motivating students to engage in learning activities, promoting independence and building self-esteem
- Assisting with personal care needs, such as toileting and hygiene, when necessary
- Accompanying students on educational visits and trips, ensuring their safety and well-being
- Maintaining accurate records of student progress and providing regular feedback to teachers and parents/carers
- Participating in relevant training and professional development opportunities to enhance your skills and knowledge in supporting SEND students
To be considered for this role, you should have:
- A minimum of one year's experience working with children or young people with SEND (desirable)
- A relevant qualification in education, childcare, or social work (desirable)
- A good understanding of the challenges faced by students with SEND and strategies to support their learning and development
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- The ability to work effectively as part of a team and build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents/carers
- A patient, empathetic, and nurturing approach to working with children and young people
- Flexibility and adaptability to respond to the changing needs of students
- A commitment to promoting inclusion and equality in education
